What Causes Swelling Of Labia Inspite Of Using Tweezers To Pluck The Hair In My Bikini Area?

I was using tweezers to pluck the hair in my bikini area and I was nowhere near my labia when they suddenly just swelled up. I actually saw it happen in the mirror. Now they re like 5 times their normal volume of blood and haven t gone down in swelling for over 15 minutes. No pain. Minor amount of itchiness. Any idea what s going on?

Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Swelling & itching could be due to your hair removal technique or existing minor infectious conditions like sebaceous cyst or Fordyce spots, Bartholin's cyst etc. I advice you to,
-Use body wash like benzoyl peroxide 5% prior to your hair removal techniques.
- Avoid tweezers & prefer alternative methods.
- a course of Antibiotics (tab. Amoxiclav 625mg twice daily) if needed
-Daily Sitz bath
- Analgesics( Ibuprofen ) to get relieved of pain
- Avoid using tampons as it may worsen your symptoms
- wear cotton innerwear.
- Maintain good hygiene.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,

Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
