What Causes Swelling Of Lymph Node On Left Side Of Neck?

Hello. my friend, age 44, is a cigar smoker and i recently noticed that his lymph node gland on the left side of his neck is small but swollen. he also has high BP and is currently on medication. i wanted to know what causes the glands in the neck to swell.
