What Causes Swelling Of The Ears Under The Cheek Bone?
Following a head cold/bad spring allergies I developed a swelling in front of, below my left ear under my cheek bone. I watched it swell to the size of an egg one morning befor work. one morning. A hard prune sized bump has remained in that same area. Today I am experiencing vertigo and nausea along with the feeling that things are startinging up again in my face, glands on my left side of face/ear. A week ago I was advised to suck on sour lemon drops to help dislodge a blocked P____(?) gland. Does any of this make sense. Thanks, PJS
Well the area that you have explained is of Parotid gland only and there is a possibility of obstruction in the duct of the salivary gland due to formation of crystalline stones known as Sialoliths from the minerals present in saliva the duct is blocked..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation, although as you are pregnant x rays cannot be taken..
If it is suspected to be due to stone formation you can be advised to suck tart candies as at times the stones can flush out with heavy saliva flow.. Superficial stones can however be pushed manually towards the duct orifice and can be removed..
Deeper stones needs surgical removal..
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
