What Causes Swelling Of Tonsils And White Spots On Them While Having Strep Throat?

my son was diagnosed with strep throat a few weeks ago. he has since finished 10 days of an antibiotic. no more pain from sore throat. no fever. but his tonsils are STILL swollen and have a few small white spots on them. we took him back to his dr. they tested him for mono which was negative. they said its normal for tonsils to stay swollen for 1-2 months. it this accurate? it just seems so abnormal that they still look so swollen. they are not impeading his breathing or eating in anyway. even dr said its normal, we r still concerned.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Having enlarged tonsils without congestion is normal.
Having white spots on tonsils might be due to some pus pockets remained there after active infection subsides.
Do Listerine gargles.
Avoid cold drinks and junk food.
Ok and take care.
