What Causes Swelling On Both Sides Of Forehead And Pus-filled Pimples?

My friend has swelling on both sides of the forehead, the temple area, with some lumps and bumps like pimples, infection, weeping lots of yellowish liquid. These are the same swellings that come up when he chews hard stuff like meat. Are these glands?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swellings & pus filled pimples on the forehead are commonly due to allergic reaction of the skin or bacterial infection of the skin. Your friend is suggested to wash his face with medicated face wash 3-4 times a day, take regular showers & wash his clothes frequently in hot water.

He can take non sedating antihistamines, once daily for 5 (five) days. Take doxycycline (Doxt-100), once bid for 5 (five) days to reduce the pimples and swelling. Do not scratch or touch the face with dirty hands. Take more fruits, veggies and water. Avoid constipation. Take laxatives, at bed time or fiber rich food.

He can apply locally ointments like Neosporin or Betnovate C in the area affected when indoors. Do not go in sun exposure after applying these ointments. He should avoid non-vegetarian food. Take more of vegetarian protein & yogurts. Stay away from addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
