What Causes Swelling On Left Side Of Shin Bone?

I was just getting ready for a walk and noticed a 4x3" swollen area to the left of my shin bone. I don't recall hitting or any injury. It's starting to ache a little. I took 4 Ibuprofen and am going to elevate my leg. What do you think it could be caused by?
