What Causes Swelling On The Cheeks After Receiving Novocaine Shots?

On Wednesday, I received 3 shots of novocaine in my cheek due to a cavity underneath a crown. Today, Monday, My cheek is swollen, no infection, just fluid, I think from the shots. How long will it take my system to absorb this fluid?
Should I contact my dentist?
I've been faithfully rinsing with warm salt water, morning and evening, since Wednesday.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It is appearing to be a complication of nerve block or Novocaine shot leading to Hematoma formation..
This is one of the common complication with Novocaine shot that is given to numbing upper back teeth..
Due to piercing of the artery or vein while injection there is accumulation of blood into soft tissues and there is hematoma formation..
The hematoma generally subsides in 2-3 weeks..
You should avoid doing warm compresses over it and always do cool compresses..
If in a week or ten days you do not find any improvement then consult your Dentist..

Hope this helps..

Regards .
