Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 82 year old husband has been in the hospital for three weeks. Besides his legs and feet being swollen, so is his scrotum......so much that using an urinal is most of the time impossible. He has RPF as well as other things going on. Besides laysics, is there any other way to bring down the swelling in his scrotum?
Swollen legs and feet may be caused by heart, liver, or kidney problems. Swelling is as a result of fluid retension. Swelling may extend right up to the scrotal area and may at time be generalized. Lasilix is a diuretic that may help reduce swelling. In addition to this drug, you may try the following: • Reduce fluid intake • Reduce salt intake • Lift up legs while lying
The underlying cause should be investigated and treated. A complete history of the problem and physical examination by the doctor with tests like ECG, liver, and kidney function tests may be needed to know the exact cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
