Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Tuesday morning I had very significant swelling of my lower right lip (only 1/2 of the lip). I thought maybe it was a bug bite? Wednesday morning my whole lower lip was very swollen. I stopped some thing that I take at bedtime. This morning my whole upper lip very swollen and swelling in my face around my mouth to nose and a bit with eyes feeling strange. There is still a lot of swelling of my face at 7:30 pm. I have never experienced anything like this before. I have stopped all supplements.
Your symptoms are indicating toward allergic reaction causing allergic angioedema of lips and surrounding area. It can be due to a number of causes like allergy to any food or medication, any bug bite or skin cosmetics, etc. For now take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine or Benadryl to reduce swelling and along with it do cool compresses over the swelling.
But if the symptoms recur you should consult an emergency room and get evaluated so that they can do a blood test to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms and treat accordingly. Eliminating exposure to allergen once it is ruled out is the best way to avoid recurring symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
