What Causes Swelling On The Tongue And Breathing Difficulty?

My 37 year old healthy daughter-in-law has had 3 episodes of swelling of the tongue, rash and burning of the face and difficulty breathing. Went to ER and urgent care, they referred her to allergist. He says it is not an allergy, could be cancer, lupus, auto-immune disease of some sort. She is panicked, what type of doctor should she see to try to figure out symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned but her symptoms may be due to a treatable condition.

She should see a rheumatologist.

Her general doctor can refer her or she can contact her local hospital or use online resources such as healthgrades.com to find one in her area.
Healthgrades would also provide ratings of the doctors in the different specialities.

Rheumatologist diagnose and treat autoimmune diseases such as lupus, RA etc.
He or she may also check for other conditions as well

I hope this helps
