What Causes Swelling Under The Tongue After Eating Pistachios?

Hi there, my boyfriend just ate some pistachio nuts and his mouth has developed a swelling underneath his tongue. His speech is not impaired and he doesn't think it is serious but should he perhaps get checked out in case he goes into anaphylaxic shock?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

He needs to take an anti histamine as soon as possible. In addition he should be assessed in the event that the swelling progresses and causes closure of the airway.

After this episode, he may want to consider allergy testing to determine if there are any other allergens that he needs to avoid.

He should avoid nuts in the future. His doctor may suggest an epi pen to have with him in case he has another severe attack.

I hope this helps
