What Causes Swelling Under The Tongue And A Swollen Lump Under The Right Jaw?

The tissue under my tongue is swollen and sore. I have had a little nodule there for awhile, but did not bother me. Now it does bother me when I move my tongue around. Plus I have a swollen lump right under my jaw bone that hurts to the touch. It is not tonsils as I had my tonsils removed when I was a child.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling under the tongue and a swollen lump under the right jaw which most probably due to causes like obstruction in the salivary gland caused due to formation of crystalline stones known as Sialolith in the duct of the gland leading to pooling of saliva in the gland and the duct that causes expansion of gland and duct and appears as swelling. The swelling can also occur due to infection in salivary gland. Consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an MRI or CT SCAN can help in diagnosis. In case stones are small taking plenty of sour candies and sugar free chewing gums can stimulate saliva flow and the stones or obstructing foreign body can flush out the stones along with the saliva flow. In case of large stones and deeply located surgical removal can be done by making an incision near the stone. A technique known as SIALOSCOPY which is technique that can be employed to locate the deeper stones and subsequent removal.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
