What Causes Swelling With Pain On Shin After Hitting?

I got hit with a softball on my shin and within minutes it blew up to be the size of a golf ball, it has increased in size and is very bruised. It hurts to walk at times, always when I'm standing up and holding it up. I cant touch it at all. Is it broken?
