What Causes Swollen And Bruised Foot?

I dropped a wooden chair on the inside of my ankle a yr ago the whole left side of my foot turned into a bruise n it hurt n I had to end up walkin on it 8 hrs that day next day it was all swollen it took me a month to wrar normal shoes n to this day its sensitive n cant b touched what moght I have done to it?
