What Causes Swollen And Painful Shin?

I was kicked on the side of my shin 2 days ago by my 16.2 hh horse. The area is very swollen with a red center that is numb. It is very painful from the inside. It hurts to walk, but I can Do I need and xray. Could it possible be a fracture if I can walk?
