What Causes Swollen And Red Tonsils?

super swollen, red tonsils for over a month now, since we were in St Thomas/Jamaica. He s had no pain... in the beginning just a bit difficult to swollen, tickle, slightly uncomfortable. No other symptoms. The only unusual thing was he had really bad bug bites from day 1 in St Thomas. Didn t affect me at all. He was covered in welt-like bumps that itched for at least a week after the trip. What is this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen and red tonsils along with slight swelling, tickle and uncomfortable feeling can be due to causes like chronic throat infection caused by bacteria or virus while can also be due to causes like post nasal drip, acid reflux etc..
Secondly welt like bumps can be due to bug bites or allergic reaction to any food or medicine or contact dermatitis with some skin cosmetic, detergent, soaps etc.
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like throat swab culture, complete blood picture and allergic tests for welts can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
Treatment will be decided depending upon the cause of the symptoms..

-As of now you can do warm saline gargles.

-Do gargles with betadine mouthwash..

-Suck throat lozenges and chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..

-For welts and hives take benadryl or levocetrizine, do cool compresses and apply calamine lotion..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
