hello,
i can understand your concern.
does your mother have any chronic diseases like diabetes??
does she use any medications????
is the swelling associated with fever or any rise in the temperature at the site of swelling????
any loss of sensations in the toes which appear grey????
based on the symptoms and the history this most likely appears like a
cellulitis of the lower limb .
this basically indicates that she is having an infection.
a few basic tests needs to be done for your mother such as
1.complete blood picture.
2. CRP
3.colour doppler(venous and arterial)
4. random blood sugar(if elevated a fasting and post lunch sugars are required)
-kindly take your mother for a doctor consultation immediately, if the swelling increases rapidly, the skin becomes very tense, she is running a
high fever, loss ofsensations in the toes, colour of the toes turn black(indicates
gangrene or death of the tissue).
-the treatment would depend on the results of the tests mentioned.
this includes appropriate antibiotics, anti inflammatory drugs like
diclofenac, controlling blood sugars with
insulin if the levels are found to be high.
-elevating the foot end by placing couple of pillows below the legs would help in reducing the swelling.
hope i have answered your concerns.
feel free to ask further queries.
thanks for choosing HCM
