General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swollen throat in the level you are describing can come due to an inflammation of the thyroid gland. It can give pain towards the ears without sore throat. I would recommend you consider testing TSH, T3 and T4 hormone levels in your blood. That will confirm or rule out a possible thyroid problem.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General & Family Physician
