What Causes Swollen Ankles After Having Antibiotics For Strep Throat?
To give you some back ground Aaden my son who is two years old has rashs on a daily basis I took him to dermatologist he said he had type a dermatitis idk if dermatits is the right word for it. But they gave me some steroid cream for him for really bad break outs. They told me to change his laundry detergent to baby friendly keep his skin moisturized and so on and sent me on my way about 3 weeks ago he woke up with swollen ankles, feet wrist and hands. I took him to the doc who did blood test and came to to conclusions its either 50 percent chance auto immune system disease or 50 percent chance allergic reactions to the antibiotics he was on for strep throat but he has been on the antibiotic before and never reacted like this they have continued to do blood tests. He had a really bad break out of a rash a few days ago which has lasted for about three days.he still has it but its is slowly going away but last night he woke up in the middle of the night crying pointing to his wrist, he cried for about an hour then went back to bed this morning he woke up with swollen wrist and hands and his feet and ankles are beginning to swell as well as his knees to from the research I ve done auto immune system contains rashes like the ones he gets. And just depending on what auto immune system disease it is swollen joints we had to get more blood work done on Saturday and we are still trying to figure out what this may be due to the fact that he hasn t been on antibiotics I do not think it s an allergic reaction to his antibiotics
I have gone through your question in detail, thanks for writing in detail. Yes, your doubt is right , it doesn't look like allergic reactions to medicines. In my opinion too, it is a autoimmune disease. Allergic reactions to any medicine are not localised (reactions will not be only on ankles or wrist) but generalised to whole body.
You should visit a paediatric specialist for investigations and examination. Your kid might have juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
