What Causes Swollen Ankles While Having Elevated Liver Enzymes Levels?

Hello , I had R lobe hepatectomy of my liver as a result of a large Hydatid cyst in my liver about 6 months ago. I have been taking albendazole from one month prior to surgery until 5 months after . I have been checking my LFTs and CBC monthly and all was ok until 2 weeks ago which I found the ALT : 1080 and AST : 975 Bilirubin direct :8 I was feeling very fatigued and nauseated but no clinical jaundice . I stopped my abendazole and in follow up blood work my enzymes are down to around ALT:500 and AST: 300. I believe that was a side effect of Albendazole and I feel slightly better but since 2-3 dats ago I developed 1-2+ ankle edema , about 2 kg weight gain and feel very bloated most of the times . Could this swelling be due to the elevated liver enzymes ??! Thnx

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The swelling of ankles is a characteristic symptom of liver problem. Your liver enzymes are also raised. I would suggest complete liver function tests to be done & be under a gastroenterologists. care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
