What Causes Swollen Bottom Lip In A Diabetic Patient?

My mother is diabetic. This afternoon we went into the store and I looked at my mother, and her bottom lip was a little swollen. As we went thru the store it got fatter. Now that we are home she has ice on it and it is going down. Could her being diabetic have something to do with her disease?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your mother have symptoms of swollen bottom lip and she is diabetic which seems to be due to some kind of allergy this allergy might be food induced or induced by drugs or induced by environmental factors . I would suggest you to :-

- Give cold compresses to affected area 2-3 times a day .

- Drink plenty of fluid , drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day .

- Do not touch the affected area with your hands as it can aggravate condition.

If condition doesn't get better in a day then consult dermatologist for proper examination and to rule out other cause. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and steroid ointment. If the allergic reaction is severe then doctor may give adrenaline short. Steroids can be considered in this case with fairly good response.
