What Causes Swollen Face And Eyelids After Having HRT?
I am 39 and have had Hashimoto s since my twenties. My levels were tested 4 months ago and they were normal. In the last 2-3 years I have had HRT to address early perimenopause, but it isn t going well since I moved to a new state a year ago (different doctors who seem to be ignorant of HRT). Anyway, the past few days I have been waking up with a swollen face and very swollen eyelids. I am also retaining water around my middle and had break through bleeding for the first time this morning. Do you think this is my thyroid auto-immune disease or the HRT? Thanks in advance!
Hello, Thanks for letting us know your health concern. To detect the cause for your symptoms, a complete clinical evaluation is necessary along with assessment of the hormone status, hepatic and renal function. Breakthrough bleeding is indicative of hormone imbalance and appropriate management has to be planned after evaluation. An abdominal and pelvic sonogram are necessary. If thyroid profile is normal, the symptoms are likely to be the the side effects of HRT. Please see an endocrinologist for further support. Wish you good health.
