What Causes Swollen Face, Itchy Neck And Red Spots On Face?

Hi, my 6 year old son woke up this morning g for school with a swollen face and itching back of neck and red spots that come and go on his face.. Came down in the middle of the night with a head ache. Was given Tylenol but face wasn t swollen then. Gave him benadryl 2 today.. Seemed to go down. Just was curious as to what would cause this all of a sudden it haven t happened before. Thanks Erin.

Hi Dear ,

As per your query your son has swollen face , itchy neck and red spots on face . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like allergic reaction from cosmetics and skin products , side effect of any medicine , eczema , psoriasis , bug bite and seborrheic dermatitis . In your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to allergic reaction due to insect bite or some skin product . If its getting better by taking benadryl then continue taking benadryl as it is a anti histamine . Beside that apply ice pack to affected area to reduce itchiness and swelling . Also keep the affected area clean , wash it with cold water and mild soap . If condition doesn't get better in 24 hours then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe steroid ointment , give adrenaline short and prescribe anti bacterial or anti viral depending upon the diagnosis in case of infection .
