What Causes Swollen Gum With A White Dot And Bleeding In Mouth?
I currently have a cold (runny nose, post-nasal drip, cough) and yesterday I noticed a pain in my mouth. On the left side of my mouth, on my gum, about half way down, between two teeth. It's slightly swollen, and there is a white dot- that almost looks like a hole. I have swished with salt water and it didn't hurt. However it does whenever I put pressure on it. My teeth don't hurt, and they aren't loose at all. It just started bleeding. And so I was wondering what to do about it.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain and the explanation of the lesion it seems like you have a gum boil over the gums that can occur due to either any traumatic injury with some hard food or due to food particle impaction in the gum crevice leading to bacterial accumulation and formation of a small ulcer.. In case if the gums are infected due to deposits present over the gums it can also be a Gingival abscess or a gum abscess.. Both these conditions are treatable and you need not to worry about it.. You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can examine you and do scaling of the area or the entire teeth to remove deposits and infection.. He can advise you a short course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers and do gum paint application.. Doing warm saline gargles can also help..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
