What Causes Swollen Gums And Painful Glands Under Jaw And Ears?

I have recently been having swollen gums that flucuate back and forth. I also have had some type of cold or flu with swollen glands under my jaw and ears. The pain has been unbearable that I cannot even chew. I do have a tooth that is loose with a hole in it that has been there for quite a few years. It never bothered me until now. But my other teeth on the other side hurt too. I suspect that I have had a sinus infection also. What do you think?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have a number of factors that are leading to gum pain and swelling as well as pain in teeth and gums..
As you have sinusitis it can cause generalized pain in teeth and gums of upper teeth..
Tooth that is loose and have a hole in it can lead to pain localized to that particular tooth while it can also cause swollen lymph nodes under the chin and under the jaw..
If you have swollen gums it can be due to gum infection leading to gum inflammation and pain in gums..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like a complete full mouth x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised to get either root canal treatment or extraction of infected tooth followed by antibiotics and painkillers..
Scaling of teeth and gums can help in relieving swelling of gums..
You should also do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash..
For sinus infection consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and PNS View x ray of the sinuses can help in diagnosis..
For sinusitis you can be advised antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkillers, decongestants and saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and decongestant nasal sprays..
Do warm compresses over the swollen lymph nodes..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
