What Causes Swollen Jaw And Clogged Ears After Injury?

I work in construction and got hit on my jaw and ear with a piece of wood. My jaw is swollen and my nose and ear were bleeding. There is no bleeding now but my jaw is still swollen and my ear feels clogged. If i push on my jaw i can feel a little pressure in my ear. From time to time my ear will become unclogged but just for a few seconds. There is no pain in my ear. My jaw hurts when I eat and causes my ear to feel more clogged like a change in pressure on an airplane.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards fracture of skull near ear canal due which bleeding occur and dislocation of jaw . It could also be possible that there is injury to any facial soft tissue due to which bleeding occur and fracture of jaw is also there .

The clogged ear are to due blood lot which interrupt airway passage of ar canal off and on with opening and closer of mouth.

I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon without any delay because injury of this part of body may lead to certain complications. Doctor may order X-ray , CT scan or MRI for proper diagnosis and treat it.

For now take soft or liquid diet ,tie a bandage around your jaw and head to make them stable and give arm compresses to ear.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
