Hello and welcome to HCM,
Swelling of knee may not be associated with emphysema or under-active thyroid.
Swelling of knee joint can occur due to injury/ trauma or due to spontaneously due to autoimmune disorder.
Trauma to knee joint can cause accumulation of fluid in the joint cavity.
Autoimmune diseases are known to cause spontaneous effusion into joint cavity.
Thus, I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment, investigations and thus management.
Cold extremities (as you have mentioned freezing lower limb) can occur due to vascular disorders.
Bluish discolouration of hands and veins getting large is suggestive of some vascular disorder.
Thus, you need to consult a surgeon for clinical assessment of the vascular system of extremities.

Thanks and take care
