What Causes Swollen Leg Turning Black After An Injury?

I fell flat on my face two days ago. I was able to get to the emergency room 24 hours after the fall. By that time my leg was swollen and turning black and blue. All the energency room did was take x-rays of my knee, not taking into consideration any other part of my body. I am 63 year old female, 100 lbs overweight. I have a history of falling as well as up and down weight. I m totally embarrassed as it is when I go in, but i feel as though they were doing what they could to get me out of there. Even as my leg was continuing to swell, they slapped on a leg brace and sent me on my way. I won t be back home until the end of next week. What signs should I be aware of after a direct fall on the front of the body?

Hello,

Your situation is going to improve in the next days. If your leg continues to swell and you feel pain, consulting again with your doctor will be necessary. Other signs to consider would be fatigue, vomiting, low blood pressure or bluish color on your abdomen.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
