What Causes Swollen Legs, Bloating, Itchy Skin In A Patient With Hepatitis?
I am looking for information for my mum. She was diagnosed Hepatitis C after she had vomited blood and was seriously ill. She is 79 years old. The legs are welling she also complain that the tummy is filled she can not eat well. she want too scratch all over her body, has cramp on legs and fingers. The doctor prescribed omeprasol and livolin that she is taking. What is the stage of this illness? Is there anything else to do to releave her pains
The symptoms like bloating, itchy skin, loss of appetite, not being able to eat anything is indicative of liver dysfunction. She has a history of Hepatitis C. Since she vomited blood, she needs urgent clinical examination it is indicative of portal hypertension. She may need urgent medical support to get bleeding under control.
Swelling and pain foot is commonly due to water retention, she should limit the salt intake, stay active. Let her continue to take the prescription medicines. Take boiled food. Avoid spicy, oily food. She should stay adequately hydrated and take quality sleep. Get her treated at the earliest. To get ease from bloating she should take antacid and PPIs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
