What Causes Swollen Legs While Having Heart Disease?
My husbands legs have swollen considerably over last few months and when I checked them tonight they are hard as a rock upon feeling them, because he has heart problems (2 quadruple bypasses, several heart attacks) I have tried to get him to go to ER but he won t. Are these signs of serious if not fatal condition?
With a history of previous heart surgeries and heart attacks with likely decreased function of the heart, the swelling is likely linked to heart failure.
Other causes of bilateral swelling of the legs are kidney failure, liver failure, side effect of medication, low levels of protein.
The intense swelling can indicate that the heart disease is worsening. In addition to physical examination, he may need blood tests and imaging such as echo and ECG.
I hope this helps
