What Causes Swollen Lip Along With Difficulty Eating And Throat Pain?

I had a cold sore 2 weeks ago that cleared up after a few days. Then on the Friday the 2nd my entire top lip became very swollen. The next day I iced it, put tea bags on it & a cotton ball with milk & it went down. It was fine then on Tuesday my entire lip became so swollen it hurts to talk or eat. It feels fine as long as I have ice on it or milk & will being to look somewhat normal but then will swell right up. It s very painful.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be many reason for swollen lips like allergic reaction ,infection (herpes) and angioedema. In your case the probable cause of lip swelling is angioedema .Angioedema is cause by various factors like bodies reaction to certain foods (sea food, nuts ,eggs or milk). pet hair, sunlight and certain medicines (painkilles ,antibiotics and blood pressure medicines)

I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper evaluation and to rule out conditions like anaphylactic shock or herpes. Doctor may prescribe anti histamine drug , anti inflammatory drug (ibuprofen) or adrenaline injection in more severe case .

For now do cold compresses several times a day ,avoid sun exposure and take over the counter anti histamine medicine like benadryl .
