Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I've never had a cold sore, my wife gets them but I never have. I occasionally dip chewing tobacco. I have a small part of my bottom lip that feels a little swollen, not sore but it doesn't feel normal. Almost like I bit it. It's about the size of a bb. I felt it two days ago and it has not changed any. When should I be worried?
As per your query if you dip tobacco in the are of the inner lip that is appearring swollen the cause of swelling can be irritation and inflammation caused by the chemicals present in tobacco..
If it is not the cause it can be due to either burning with hot food, ijury with hard food, lip biting or allergic reaction..
Nothing to worry, do warm saline gargles, do cold compresses and take antiinflammatory mediciens like Ibuprofen..
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen lips after chewing tobacco is due to chemical injury caused by the chemicals present in the tobacco that you have chewed. This has led to inflammation and soreness of oral mucosa. You need not to worry and can do warm saline gargles. You should suck on ice pops as it will help in reducing inflammation, Maintain proper oral hygiene. Do brushing and flossing. Gargle with antimicrobial mouth wash. Apply steroid ointment on lips. Keep lips moist by applying petroleum jelly. Drink plenty of water.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
