What Causes Swollen Lump On Ankle While Having Plate Put In Ankle?

i had a plate put in/on my ankle about 9 months ago, everything healed fine, however ever now and again i will get a swollen lump near the top of where the plate is that is sore to touch, almost like a bruise. It comes and goes and doesnt seem to be affected by exercise levels. Any ideas what is causing it? Is it something i should have checked up?

the plate put is also a forgein body. it can react with body. x-ray and rview can be done by orthopaedic surgeon. if there is indication it can be removed. ultimatly it is to be removed in due time.
