Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen Lymph Node In Groin Area After Knee Replacement?
I recently had 2 total knee replacements. In between the first and second I was sent to get an ultra sound. I believe they were looking for blood clots. No blood clots were found but they said I have an enlarged lymph node in my groin area. Now they want me to see a surgeon to have a biopsy. Should I be concerned? Or are they over reacting
The enlarged lymph node is not likely related to the knee replacement, unless you had gotten an infection from the surgery. So this might be an incidental finding when they were looking for a blood clot. Since they don't know why the lymph node is enlarged, it needs to be biopsied to find the reason. They are not over reacting and there is cause for concern. An enlarged lymph node could be related to a number of conditions, including infection, tuberculosis, and cancer. It may be nothing serious as well. The biopsy will help make that determination. Hope this helps.
