Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can I use benzonatate for a swollen lymph nose on my jaw beside my ear above the ear lobe? It has been there for about 14 days now and has begun to turn red or purplish from the swelling. I have not gone to the doctor yet because I m moving and waiting to get new insurance in a week once I move to a new state. Is there any good home remedies I could do as well until I can get insurance to see a doctor next week? What could be causing the swollen lymph node and is there maybe a possibility of it being something else? I have really bad allergies and symptoms of sinusitis every day but have never been diagnosed by a specialist. I get bronchitis, ear infections and strep throat every so often. Most recently bronchitis a couple months ago and that s why I have leftover benzonatate. But I get ear infections and strep at the same time usually every other year or so. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the query. Lymph node behind ear, above ear lobe..are enlarged due to infection of ear/ any organ in oral cavity including throat, sinuses. They body mechanism to fight back infections.. so just enlargement is sign of body resistance... but when it gets inflamed, red- purple painful it's infected inflamed & needs treatment. In your case it seems to be inflamed/ infected due to severe, recurrent infections you have...with risk of developing abscess. It's treatment consists of treatment of streptococcal throat, ear & sinus infection. Treatment of bronchitis. assure good health & hygiene of ENT region along with treatment of the lymph node . Also resistance boosters( antioxidants)& desensitization of the allergens . You need consultation of an ENT surgeon & allergy specialist. Thanks
