What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes And Difficulty In Swallowing?

My 16 year old grand daughter has had vert swollen lymph noses on one side of her and she is extremely tired. She can barely swallow. This has been going on for about a week. She has been seen by a Pediatrician who put her on a very strong antibiotic. She has gotten worse. She has no other symptoms. Can you tell me if we should get her in with another type of Dr.?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The condition is suggestive of acute infection of the upper respiratory tract with lymph node enlargement in the draining regions.

If the strong oral antibiotic is not supportive, she has to be kept on intravenous therapy to cover the bugs and if needed further work up with lab, ultrasound of the neck and so forth according to the progress of the issue.

Gargles with salted lukewarm water added peppermint oil will help best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
