What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes And Fluid In The Ears?

Hi! I ve had swollen glands and tonsils for the last two-three weeks, almost to the point of not being able to swallow. I ve also had night sweats and fluid in my ear. I ve been to the Drs twice, once given antibiotics and an expectorant and more recently a steroid. I m waiting for the results of a throat culture but any ideas??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

What problems you are experiencing is an infection of tonsils, which has caused inflammation of the pharynx and has extended to the middle ear.

Kindly wait for culture report, which will tell the nature of organisms and which antibiotics they are sensitive to. Antibiotics can be changed accordingly if necessary.

In the meantime, kindly continue with the prescribed medications and do the necessary follow-up as advised. You may need to plan for removal of tonsils once the infection subsides.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
