What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes Around The Neck?

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed what felt like a very tender swollen glad on one side of my upper neck, near the jaw. Now I have a cold sore. Is there a connection. What does that awful, tender gland mean? I ve had that type of thing, and cold sores, since I was a kid...currently mid 50s. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Tender swollen glands on upper neck indicates an enlarged lymph node.
Pain is usually associated with bacterial infection.
You need to consult your primary healthcare provider for prescription of pain killer.
Thereafter, you need to get aspiration cytology of the lymph node to know cause of swelling.

Thanks and take care
