What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Armpit?

Good evening. My neck is swollen and has been getting swollen over time. I also had an ultra sound of my breasts and the radiologist found lymph nodes in my armpit. I will be having an ultra sound of my thyroid next week. How do you think I should proceed. Stacy

Hi,

It could be either a Lymph node or a localized fat collection ( Lipoma ) Both are harmless condition and doesn't need to be taken out.

A lymph node will reduce in size by itself over time but a lipoma will not reduce in size but may grow.

Also if it is a lymph node there will be some other cause of its enlargement which need to be found.

Hence it is necessary to know what it is exactly. In that regard, I advise you to get FNAC test of the swelling and revert back with reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
