Hello doctor. I recently was diagnosed with a tumor in the right parotid. I have been on 3 different antibiotics in over 3 months. My doctor said it is not bacterial bit probably viral. Also within the last week I have been feeling very bad after seeing doctor yesterday they sId lymph nodes on neck and arms are swollen. I have a lump at the back of my left ear, bad head HE S SWOLLEN HE D at base of skull and pain in the left and right jaw. The tumor has a MRBLE SIZE SWOLLEN AREA AND IS PAINFULL. I AM AWAITING A FINE NEEDLE BIOPSY ON FRIDAY JULY 8. I HAVE HAD 4 VISITS TO DOCTOR IN LAST 3 MONTHS. I HAVE A LOT OF PAIN. THE CT SHOWED LARGE MASS. TUMOR EVALUATED BY RADIOLOGIST. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS WITH SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.

Noted your history of swollen right parotid gland, swollen lymph nodes, FNAC report awaited, CT shows large mass.
The diagnosis can be straightforward once the FNAC report is available as this will lead to further evaluation and management as per the reports.
If FNAC is not fruitful then repeat FNAC and excision biopsy of one of the largest lymph nodes will confirm the diagnosis.
If this is due to infection or so then you may need a proper additional course of an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory Medication.
IF this turns out to be malignant that is cancerous then the treatment would be as per the opinion of an Oncologist or Oncosurgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
