What Causes Swollen, Numb And Painful Shin?

My shin is numb and it is swollen. It hurts to touch is some places and I do not recall hurting it. It does not really bother me but it has been this way for a week. I am physically active including weight lifting and playing basketball. Any ideas what might be causing it?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen, numb and painful shin . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query soft tissue injury , haematoma and chance of fracture are very less . There is also a chance of nerve compression or nerve injury . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray , CT scan or physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and vitamin supplement for quick recovery and physical therapy . For now apply ice for 10 mins daily , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and elevate your leg while lying down to reduce the inflammation .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
