What Causes Swollen, Red Bumps On My Forearm?

I have a raised bump on my forearm. It is red, and swollen and there is a black dot in the middle. It is not itchy but it is very painful especially when touched. I don t recall being bitten by any insects and I m not sure how that would happen as I live in a virtually-insect free college dorm. Can you please help me?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

Most probably the lesion you described would be pyoderma. The disease is caused by bacteria..staphylococci affecting hair follicle leading to pyoderma.

You might have tender erythematous swelling. There may be frank pus after few days. It may be ruptured with pus discharge.

You consult Dermatologist for perfect diagnosis. He might suggests some investigations to rule out DM,HIV or other internal diseases.

Poor immunity and poor hygiene might cause such problem.

Antibiotics like cefixime in proper dose along with anti inflammatory drugs like nimesulide may be considered. Antibiotic cream like fusidic acid may be applied. Take bath with dettol liq containing water.

You may feel better.

Thanks.
