What Causes Swollen Scrotum?

Hello ..the left side of my scrotum seems to have enlarged over the last few years making it annoying when I do my long bike rides. No pain. I was told years ago I had an ? inguenael ? hernia, and it would be something to address when it gets uncomfortable . I m 59 healthy very fit and active. Anything to be aware of ? Or to check that nothing worse is going on....I understand it s a rather routine surgery to remedy....how long and what is involved in recovery..? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I have gone through your query. There can be several causes for that.

For further assessment you may require ultrasound scrotum with detailed medical examination after surgeon consultation.

Further treatment mainly depends upon the underlying condition and diagnosis.

Avoid strenuous activity.

Use scrotum support.

In case of pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
