What Causes Swollen Spot Above The Ankle?

My husband has a spot just above his ankle that swelled up yesterday while jogging. Now today you can see it bulge out when he steps on it and then go back to normal when he takes the weight off it. What could it be? He has no pain or discomfort at all.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the swollen spot above the ankle indicates possible inflammatory condition of the ligament or tendon insertion. My guidelines at present:
- Keep the leg elevated over support of 2-3 pillows
- Local application of ice
- Use analgesic spray or ointment with diclofenac, linseed oil or capsaicin
- Avoid tight shoes
- Avoid barefoot walking
- Analgesic and anti-inflammatory medicines

Consult your physician or sports specialist as per the need.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
