Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
During my sleep i awakened with a extremely swollen tongue taunt and twisted on one side and i felt like i was going to choke and swallow my tongue. My speech was slurred but no other symptons other than i couldn t control the movement of my tongue. Can you explain what could have caused this and what to do if it happens tonight?
As per my clinical experience, the swollen tongue with slurred speech and twisting to one side indicates possible issue of cerebrovascular stroke (CV stroke). The most common cause for the same is very high blood pressure in usual cases. Kindly get a visit to ER without delay as there are high catastrophic events of this if not taken seriously and acted promptly on medical grounds.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
