Hi
Enlarged tonsils in most cases is caused by an infection(viral or bacterial) and will always present with signs and symptoms of tonsilitis. However, in toddlers and preschool children, it is common to find enlarged tonsils without an infection. Some non-infectious causes of enlarged tonsils include: allergies, environmental irritants and gastroesophageal reflux at times. These are causes that might pass by unnoticed with mild symptoms.I will suggest you just observe the child. If any symptoms, you see a Doctor.
Enlarge tonsils can however easily get infected.I will advise you teach your child to practice good hygiene as poor hygiene can easily bring the child in contact with infectious organisms.
Hope my answer will hep you
Best regards
