What Causes Swollen Tonsils?

Hello, I have just looked in the mirror and saw that my left tonsil is swollen and very hardened, It is also purple, very different colour to my right tonsil. It only aches when I swallow but the pain is not very severe. I haven't got any other symptoms, what could it be and what shall I do? Thank you.

I have gone through your query regarding painful enlargement of left tonsil. As you said it has got different colour purple and redish. Your this clinical discription revailes that you may be having-

1- Peratonsillar abscess (Quincy).

2- Tonsillar cyst with infection.

3- Left acute tonsillitis.

I will suggest you to please consult your ENT doctor because here clinical examination is very important to diagnose the real fact and accordingly treatment may be planed.
