What Causes Swollen Vein In Elbow?

My left arm was sore near my elbow and i noticed my vein is blue and swollen about a half an inch long. I did get bit by a bug a few days ago on my left arm near my wrist and it swelled up all the way to my veins near my wrist. I also got the lupron shot yesterday, so im not sure if either of these could be why my vein is swollen it is located near my elbow but where i bend my arm. What could this be?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Based on your description, I would conclude about local inflammation or a thrombophlebitis. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam, and some tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, D dimmer levels). Performing a Doppler ultrasound of the blood vessels in this region may be needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
