What Causes Syncope Episodes On Intake Of Alcohol?

Hello. My sister, who is now 73 has developed some weird reaction to alcohol that I don t understand as a nurse. She can have several glasses of wine with no problem, but she had one sip of gin from someone else s drink and seemed to experience some time of blackout. Is that an allergy? Is this just intolerance? Is it a sign of GI problem?

Hi.

I doubt this is a GI related issue or an allergic reaction, because if that is the case she should have displayed symptoms of a gastric condition or intolerance. Please also understand that there are different types of syncope and she will most certainly require an elaborate evaluation that can include an MRI or CT scan of her brain, an EKG, an EEG, etc.
