What Causes Tachycardia While Recovering From Anorexia Nervosa?
I am a 38 year old recovering anorexic. I m currently eating 2000 calories plus. I am losing weight rather quickly my PVP checked my thyroid and that is fine. I m thinking that I am hypermetabolic from refeeding. I m having tachycardia upon waking at about 140 beats per min. It seems to slow as the day goes on. My biggest concern is that I have had my period for three weeks now, and its not letting up. My periods have been regular for the past year after years of amenorrhea. What do you think is going on?
The symptoms of tachycardia, heavy menses flow are related to metabolic changes through Insulin release in ileu of Refeeding syndrome during recovery phase of Anorexia nervosa. As the metabolic pathways settle over a period of time, it gets accustomed to previously normal physiologic status, however, certain dietary modifications and adjuvant therapy would help great deal.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
